What really matters about Agile

I came across this post recently on BigVisible’s Blog and I really like it because it re-focuses us on the why we started looking at Agile in the first place.  He says:

There are two things we ought to be talking about:

  1. How do we change our organizations to optimize the delivery of value?
  2. How do we make the lives of people involved in software development better?

This is spot on.  It doesn’t really matter if you think the Product Owner should be called a Stakeholder.  Nor does it matter whether you call stand-ups scrums or sprints iterations or stories epics…  We can get too caught up in these details and loose site of the point – delivering value and improving people’s lives.

How does Agile Improve People’s Lives?

You might ask, “really, does Agile improve people’s lives?”  And I’d have to answer yes, absolutely.  I’ll explain how in my next post.  But when I read this, it reminded me about what got me so passionate about Agile in the first place – and that is, it’s power to improve people’s lives.
